Sidney Barnes is an American Soul recording artist, performing artist, songwriter, record producer, record company owner, music publisher, author, poet, sculptor, talent developer, and an all-around good guy. Sidney has been involved in the music industry since the early sixties, In the US, England, and other countries abroad he is considered a living legend. His big break came in 1962 when he and his singing group The Serenaders were discovered by Motown Records label owner Berry Gordy Jr. and signed to Motown Records, and its publishing company Jobete Music. As a performer, either as the lead member of his late 60's interracial Soul/Rock group Rotary Connection, a member of the '60s hit R&B group The Fiestas, or as a solo performer, he has shared the bill with many artists of different genres including, Janis Joplin, Muddy Waters, Moody Blues, Alice Cooper, The Rolling Stones, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, B.B. King, and many others. His songs have been recorded by The Jackson 5, The Supremes, The Dells, Muddy Waters, Rotary Connection, Bo Diddley, The Dramatics, Minnie Riperton, Parliament/Funkadelic, and many others. His songs also have appeared in Movie soundtracks and radio & TV jingles. Over the last several years, Sidney has internationally released CDs on his independent record label. And in 2010 had much success with a UK-released solo single, "Standing on Solid Ground," which became a big hit on the Northern Soul scene abroad. In 2012 Sidney put out his Autobiography, also entitled Standing on Solid Ground.
Sidney has exceptionally high hopes for one of his new red hot singles, a song called "I Love Rhythm & Blues," co-written with the late great songwriter Mr. Otis Blackwell, the writer of "All Shook Up", and "Great Balls Of Fire" two of the biggest recordings in R&B and Rock & Roll history. Sidney is also extremely excited about his soon-to-be-released 10-song album entitled "Old Man/New Plan," which will debut in the Summer of 2022. Sidney currently has recently recorded music on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Pandora, iTunes, Amazon, and several other outlets. Sidney also continues to plan future music production work with his long-time production & songwriting partner George(P-Funk) Clinton, along with others.
Sidney turned eighty-one on Feb. 6, 2022, celebrating 63 yrs. in the music business. His goal is to be nominated for a GRAMMY in 2023.
