Description

‘Fantasize’ is a grandiose rant in which Arlen airs his discontentment with his station in life as well as the socio-political climate at the time of his writing, while defiantly daring to dream big. He began writing the song during his gruelling tenure in medical school when he truly began questioning his purpose in life. Fantasize allowed for a bit of frivolous escapism from what, at the time, felt like the harshness of his reality. Lesroy ‘A.P.’ Byers of the Oakville Collective captures perfectly in the production, the sentiment of Arlen’s hopeful helplessness.

Lyrics

Sometimes I fantasize about my life
Where I'm your husband, baby
You're my wife
We've got a kid named Benn
A dog, a car
A house with a pool
Out in the yard

And when I fantasize whole days go by
The moon could come
Crashing down
The oceans could go dry
I'm stuck inside this world of my design
The perfect getaway from this
Humdrum life of mine
This humdrum life of mine

Can't get a job,
I'm overqualified
So I just sit and make-believe
I'm not unsatisfied
I could be the CEO
of a huge company you know by name
And every day you'll see me
On the television screen

Magna cum laude
Phi beta kappa
Only to be told
That all that doesn't matter
What's the Latin for kiss-ass
The Latin for screwed over
By a system systematically developed
to take over
Our communities- one nigger at a time
We'll let you through
But just one nigger at a time
Don't be scared
I ain't never done no crimes
Except park on the wrong side
Maybe once or twice
The music is my biggest vice

Sometimes I fantasize
To pass the time
I'm president of the whole world
Everybody better fall in line
I'd win a Nobel prize
I'd put an end to war
I'd tear down all the walls
What the hell do we need those for

And when I fantasize whole days go by
The moon could come crashing down
The oceans could go dry
I'm stuck inside this world of my design
The perfect getaway from this humdrum life of mine
This humdrum life of mine

Dreams of a life with no trouble
Fantasize 'bout good days ahead
Big bank ain't no problems
I solved 'em
40 Grammies placed on my shelf
In my mind I can hope for the better times
All smiles while I'm cruising through the finish line
I'mma keep my soul
Ain't no trade so don't keep your lines open
Bogus- lifestyle's facetious- hopeless
Oh my god, it's a freak show
Please send help for your people
Just trying to win at what we do
Saying all our prayers even though we

[Work all night work when sun a beat
Bills mus' pay an' mout' dey fu feed
Time cya waste
No time dey fu dream
Money mus' mek an' de scheme mus' scheme] X2 (First time behind A.P. verse)

Oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

Sometimes I fantasize about my life
Where I'm your husband, baby
You're my wife
