‘Round The Block

One thing I learned about the path of descent,
One false move and you can’t even pay the rent na na.
The thing that struck me ‘bout the cave down low,
There’s a reason why the grass don’t grow.
The thing I learned about the way on up,
The work’s as worth it as it fills the cup.
A little note about being’ on top,
The light’s as bright as heaven’s might so it can keep you in flight yeah.

It could take a whole trip ‘round the block back to that same ol’ clock,
To finally hear it tick tock, like it don’t care if you like it or not.
So from the past I try to gleam a trophy case of the mistakes,
And let ‘em replace future days not learned from the taste
Tick tock it doesn’t care if you lack it or not,
Tick tock it doesn’t care if you like it or not.

I been up that creek, I used my hands to paddle.
I been so down to earth, it’s like I was made of salt.
I been left for dead just like a funeral parlor
But I was right all along about love been’ so good for us.
